Opening the shop

  1. Open register (if needed; see Using the till for more information). Make sure the money is in the register before the doors are open.
  2. Unlock door and open; latch open using the chain behind the door
  3. Turn on lights and fan (if needed); these are located on the metal beam to the right of the chocolate.
  4. Put outside:
    1. clothes rack and trolley;
    2. sandwich board/whiteboard;
    3. large colourful signs and blackboard saying “Open” out in the COFA Courtyard. Make sure they are visible from the main thoroughfare between the gym and the Roundhouse;
    4. One table and stools.
  5. Turn on scales and register at the powerpoint to the left of the sink
  6. Turn around roster board so it is facing out, put chalk outside
  7. Check the fridge for any snacks that stay out of the sun (eg date and coconut rolls) or any cottage industry.
  8. Put out some scoops and tongs in the green bucket.
  9. Put away everything on the drying rack, including barrels.
  10. Do a quick clean up of the shop (put dishes away, do any left over washing up, sweep the floor and outside the front entrance, do a general tidy and wipe down of the bench area)
  11. Make sure the bin is empty, there is a bin bag (use the Honest 2 Goodness ones stored under the barrels).
  12. Change the tea-towel.
  13. Uncover the soaps.
  14. Put some music on.
  15. Read the diary beside the till for any notes or news for the day.
  16. Make a to-do list for the day including necessary refill jobs, tidying and cleaning. See Cleaning the shop and pick at least one thing you think hasn't been cleaned for a while.

Where to put signs

To be expanded. diagram added Signs are important for advertising the co-op and drawing in passers-by. On weekdays, place signs in order to best lead people from the main walkway, where there is the greatest foot traffic. On weekends, focus signs toward the gym, as there are less people to attract from the main walkway (we should collect some data on this)
